Bridgeport Resident Detained by ICE; CASL Calls for Transparency and Due Process
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 28, 2025 — On Thursday, October 23, 2025, between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m., a husband and a father of two was forcibly detained by immigration enforcement officers outside his family’s home in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, near Guaranteed Rate Field and Robert Healy Elementary School. According to neighbors who witnessed the incident, ICE agents did not present a warrant before taking him into custody. The man was being held at the Broadview processing facility and has since been moved to a facility in Michigan. The husband’s family reached out to CASL for legal consultation and translation support. CASL is monitoring the situation closely and has helped the family hire an immigration attorney.
Witnesses also reported that ICE agents forcefully grabbed a neighbor who attempted to record the incident and brandished tasers to intimidate peaceful bystanders observing from public property. These actions are deeply troubling, unlawful, and unacceptable. This incident has been covered by ABC7 Chicago, and is part of a wider pattern of enforcement activity in Chicago.

This family represents so many others in our community—hardworking parents raising children, contributing to Chicago, and striving for a safe and peaceful life. The family has been left frightened, separated, and uncertain about their future. Out of fear and safety, they have temporarily relocated from their home.
This is not an isolated event—it reflects a broader pattern of enforcement actions that disproportionately impact the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community. CASL is advocating for due process and fair treatment to which all individuals are entitled. We call for transparency and accountability in how enforcement actions are conducted in our neighborhoods.
“No family should ever experience this fear and confusion at the front of their own door. Due process must be followed under the law,” CASL CEO Paul Luu said.
CASL will continue advocating for the safety, dignity, and rights of all immigrant families in Chicago.
